Finland is breaking new ground with the introduction of the world’s first phone-free tourist island. If you plan to visit Ulko-Tammio, prepare to tuck away your mobile devices and immerse yourself in the natural world around you.
Joel Heino, a representative from Parks and Wildlife Finland, emphasizes the vision behind this initiative: “We encourage visitors to put their phones away and focus their senses on nature rather than on their screens. It’s a promising approach that could be adopted in other nature and recreational sites as well.”
But fear not, adventure seekers! Participation in this phone-free experience is entirely voluntary. If you feel the need to stay connected, the island is equipped with a fully operational mobile network.
Interestingly, Finland has been recognized as the happiest country in the world for six consecutive years, a title awarded by Schengen Visa. Perhaps this phone-free retreat is part of the secret to their well-being.
