Waldorf Astoria Opens Its Doors in Helsinki: A New Chapter in Nordic Luxury
Helsinki’s hotel scene has welcomed an exciting new addition: the Waldorf Astoria, the first of its kind in the Nordic countries, is now officially open to guests in the historical Kruununhaka district. This luxurious establishment took over the premises of the former Hotel Maria, marking a significant transformation in the area.
With 116 rooms—including 32 lavish suites—this luxurious hotel brings a touch of elegance to the Finnish capital. Each suite features private bathrooms and exclusive concierge services, promising an elevated experience for every guest.
The building, a restored architectural gem initially designed by Evert Lagerspetz and Armas Siitonen, exudes character and charm. A press release highlights the carefully curated interior, characterized by earthy tones that create a serene and inviting atmosphere, all while paying homage to Helsinki’s rich design heritage.
As a prominent player in the Waldorf Astoria portfolio—now comprising 37 hotels globally—Helsinki’s new location aims to be more than just a place to stay. Dino Michael, Hilton’s global head of luxury brands, remarked, “Waldorf Astoria Helsinki is a tribute to timeless elegance and refined luxury in the heart of the Finnish capital.”
Guests can indulge in wellness at the Waldorf Astoria Spa, featuring a cold plunge pool, Finnish sauna, steam room, whirlpools, and multiple treatment rooms. Fitness enthusiasts will also appreciate the hotel’s gym and sports studio.
Among the hotel’s highlights is the Peacock Bar, an iconic element that reflects the brand’s legacy. The hotel’s restaurant, set to undergo a transformation, will debut in early 2026.
Hilton’s management is optimistic about Helsinki’s growth as a travel destination. “With a projected 17% increase in international overnight stays in 2024, we are eager to welcome visitors from around the globe,” shared Simon Vincent, Hilton’s EMEA manager.
As the Waldorf Astoria opens its doors, it not only signals a new chapter for luxury accommodations in Helsinki but also reinforces the city’s place on the international travel map. The stage is set for an influx of travelers looking for an unparalleled experience in Finland’s capital.
