When you think of a culinary holiday, Finland might not be the first destination that springs to mind. Yet, for the ninth consecutive year, this Nordic gem has been crowned the happiest place in the world — a delightful reminder that sometimes, the best way to the heart is indeed through the stomach.
The tourism board, Visit Finland, is eager to showcase the nation’s emerging foodie scene, which they proudly call “the world’s last undiscovered cuisine.” To celebrate this gastronomic revelation, they have launched Finland’s Official Tasting Table, inviting 16 fortunate—and hopefully hungry—travelers to join in the culinary adventure.

This endeavor translates into two exclusive, all-expenses-paid trips scheduled for September, and the invitation is open to all who wish to apply. The first journey is curated by Erik Mansikka, the founder of the Michelin-starred Kaskis restaurant. This coastal expedition will take participants through the archipelago, illustrating how Finland’s profound connection to the sea influences its culinary practices, not to mention the seasonal produce awaiting discovery.
The second journey ventures into the heart of Lapland, organized by the rising star of Finnish cuisine, Joel Manninen. Inspired by the Arctic environment and its unique ingredients, travelers can expect to indulge in dishes like savory salmon soup and sautéed reindeer, showcasing the richness of Finland’s northern fare.
Both itineraries promise a blend of activities and cultural experiences designed to engage all the senses, with, of course, a generous amount of food. Below are glimpses of what your days could entail.
How to Apply for a Seat at the Table
Your first task will be to decide which region you’d like to explore. Once you’ve made that crucial choice, a social media challenge awaits. You’ll need to create a brief video on Instagram or TikTok, introducing yourself and sharing your enthusiasm for participating. Applications are open until 11:59 PM EEST on June 9, with hopeful recipients notified of their success by June 29.
