Our small ironworks tour around Raseborg over the weekend took us through Antskog, Fiskars, and Billnäs before we arrived in Mustio (Svartå) for the grand finale. As with our earlier stops, the area was quiet—aside from a solitary duck gliding across the rippling water, we found ourselves completely alone. The winter scenery was simply breathtaking!
The striking yellow façade of Mustio Manor, one of Finland’s most cherished heritage buildings, gleamed against the backdrop of a blue-and-white winter landscape. Having heard countless ghost stories about this manor, I couldn’t help but envision spirits peering at us from behind the windows as we wandered through the courtyard. One day, I’d love to spend a night here and see if it changes my skepticism about the supernatural. For anyone interested, the manor’s opening hours are listed on its website.
The park, with its towering, varied trees, beautiful structures, and elegant statues, was blanketed in fresh snow. Time seemed to pause on that frosty day, illuminated by the bright midday sun. The Water Lily Path was coated in ice, as was the beach where I had secretly hoped to find an ice hole. Yet, near the bridge to the opposite bank, we spotted some open water shimmering in the light.
Close to the summer theater, we discovered a picturesque bridge that offered stunning views, particularly toward the sun. With its widened sections and charming, vintage lampposts, it presented a perfect spot for a memorable photo together.
Sunlight filtered through the trees along the riverbank, pure and radiant. A gentle sea mist hovered above the Mustio River, creating a magical atmosphere in the daylight.
I snapped countless photos, pleasantly surprised by the enchanting winter views Mustio offered. While summer strolls here are delightful, I’ve never managed to capture such stunning images during that season.
On the far side of the bridge, a stone granary stood in stark contrast to the many wooden buildings we had encountered. This historic grain store has been repurposed and now serves as meeting facilities.
A lone female mallard emerged from beneath the bridge, waddled along the icy shoreline, and quacked at us before gliding across the river toward the shelter of the wooded bank, ultimately taking flight. Remarkably, we didn’t bump into another soul during our entire visit.
Chilled to the bone from our explorations, we felt a longing to return home to our warm, inviting house. Yet, the thought of visiting nearby Korpudden for a hike on a less frigid day sparked my interest—it’s home to a couple of charming campfire sites. You can find an introduction to Korpudden linked below.
