Ian Granström, a talented photographer hailing from Southern Finland, has an exceptional gift for capturing the intricate moments of wildlife. Yet, as Ian notes, this artistry demands far more than just luck. “Photographing wildlife isn’t always straightforward,” he explains. “Locating the animals and getting closer for those perfect shots requires both time and preparation. I’ve returned from countless expeditions without a single photo to show for it.”

During an insightful interview with Bored Panda, Ian opened up about the journey that led him to photography. “I first dipped my toes in when I was 11, thanks to my older brother who gifted me my first camera. He had a passion for photographing birds and lightning storms, and he always took me along. I’m truly grateful for that introduction to nature photography; otherwise, I might never have ventured into this world.”
When asked why he chose wildlife photography, Ian shared, “I’ve always found wild animals mesmerizing. When I see wildlife, time seems to stand still, and I feel a profound sense of awe. The diversity of nature never ceases to astound me. Finland’s stunning landscapes undoubtedly enhance my photography.”
Of course, capturing these images isn’t without its hurdles. Ian recounted a particularly challenging experience: “Not every moment in wildlife photography is magical. Once, while I was trying to photograph red foxes, I tripped and my camera lens smashed against a rock. That trip turned out to be an expensive lesson.”
Despite such misfortunes, Ian’s passion shines through in his work. “I hope my pictures tell a story,” he reflected. “I want people to appreciate the beauty of nature that I see. We have only one planet; it’s our responsibility to protect it.”
