Today, I had the pleasure of speaking with Christian Tikkanen, an accomplished Finnish chef with a passion for preserving the culinary heritage of Sweden’s Finnish-speaking community. As the founder and secretary of Finlands Svenska Måltidsakademi, or the Swedish Food Academy of Finland, Christian brings invaluable insight into the nuanced world of food culture as it pertains to this unique demographic.
Our conversation delved into the rich food traditions of Finland’s Swedish-speaking population, exploring what shapes these culinary practices and the challenges they face. We also discussed some signature dishes that define this culture and whether these traditions are at risk of fading away altogether.
Christian took the opportunity to share details about the mission and activities of the Svenska Måltidsakademi, highlighting its role in promoting and safeguarding this vibrant food heritage.
As we wrapped up the episode, Christian posed a thought-provoking question to our listeners, and we encourage your thoughts in the comments section below!
