Pauli Raivio Hospitalized Following Brain Hemorrhage
In a startling turn of events, renowned Finnish horse trainer Pauli Raivio, aged 65, was hospitalized on Monday after being diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage, according to Maaseudun Tulevaisuus.
Raivio revealed to the publication that he had been experiencing troubling symptoms, including issues with mobility in his left leg and hand, for some time. “But, as any Finnish man would know, the last thing we do is go to the doctor,” he remarked, adding that he had scheduled an appointment for later in the week. However, when his condition deteriorated on Monday, an ambulance was summoned to transport him from the local health center to Jyväskylä Central Hospital.
Upon examination, doctors discovered bleeding on the surface of his brain, leading to his urgent transfer to Kuopio for further treatment. Thankfully, Raivio underwent a successful operation, as the cerebral hemorrhage had not spread extensively. By Wednesday, he was back home, marking a swift recovery.
Nonetheless, Raivio will be sidelined from coaching and stable duties for at least a month. During his absence, his daughter, Laura Raivio, will step in to manage the daily operations. Of the five horses currently under their care, at least Vale-Elli and Vioriina are anticipated to require new trainers in the near future.
Raivio’s impressive career includes training Tähen Toivomus, who clinched the trotting kingship in 2019. Throughout his tenure, Raivio has celebrated victory in 367 races, accumulating over two million euros in prize money.
