Sanni Utriainen Sets Her Sights on a Comeback
Javelin thrower Sanni Utriainen is stepping back into the limelight after a lengthy hiatus, sharing her journey with followers on Instagram.
“ONE SUMMER STILL!” she boldly proclaimed, accompanied by a video that showcases her return to the sport she loves. In her heartfelt announcement, Utriainen revealed, “I never really ended my sports career properly, and it has left me with a problem. This summer, I decided it’s now or never!”
With determination in her eyes, Utriainen expressed her commitment to spend another year refining her athletic career, aiming to close this chapter with the resolution it deserves. However, she admits uncertainty about what the future holds: “Of course, I’ve been away from training for so long that I don’t know if it will work, but you’ll see through my efforts!”
The video captures a poignant moment as Utriainen retrieves her javelin from storage, a symbol of her dedication. According to the International Association of Athletics Federations, her last official competition was in 2019, at the Kaleva Games held in Lappeenranta. During that season, she achieved a throw of 53.80 meters at the Golden Javelin competition in Vantaa, with her personal record standing at 63.03 meters, set in 2015.
Over the course of her career, Utriainen not only clinched the Finnish championship title but also brought home gold from the under-20 World Cup.
Since her last competition, Utriainen has remained a public figure, participating in the 2019 season of the popular reality show Big Brother and exploring her talents as a stand-up comedian and masseuse.
