Ikea Issues Urgent Recall on Nymåne Lamps Due to Electrical Shock Hazard

In a recent announcement, Swedish home furnishing giant Ikea has issued a safety warning regarding certain models of its Nymåne wall and reading lamps, citing a potential risk of electrical shock. The company has urged customers to cease using these lamps immediately and to spread the word about the recall, particularly to anyone who may have received, purchased, or borrowed the items.

The recall specifically targets lamps manufactured within the date range of the week in 2017 through 2020 (weeks 2217 to 2520) that carry a supplier ID number of 23241. The affected models include:

  • Nymåne wall/reading lamp, white (article number: 203.569.09)
  • Nymåne wall/reading lamp, anthracite (article number: 504.152.24)
  • Nymåne wall lamp double, white (article number: 204.286.47)

Ikea has clarified that lamps produced outside this timeframe or those with different ID numbers are not subject to the recall. For customers looking to determine whether their lamps are affected, the date of manufacture can be found on a sticker inside the lamp shade, visible when there is no bulb installed. For the double wall lamp, both the date stamp and supplier ID can be located on stickers affixed to the back of the fixture.

This recall comes as a result of a manufacturing error, and as a precaution, Ikea has also encouraged customers to inform others about the issue. The company advises anyone possessing the affected models to reach out to their customer service for further instructions. This is an essential step in ensuring safety and preventing any incidents related to these popular light fixtures.
