HIFK Welcomes Back Goalkeeper Hugo Alnefelt After Injury
In a significant boost for Helsinki IFK, the SM league club announced the return of goalkeeper Hugo Alnefelt to the roster. The 24-year-old Swede is set to reclaim his spot in goal after a challenging period on the sidelines.
Alnefelt suffered a concussion during a home match against Ilves on January 9. In a harrowing moment, he was struck in the head by Ilves forward Teemu Engberg, leading to a fall that left him motionless on the ice. Medical staff quickly intervened, and he was taken off the rink on a stretcher.
Since that unfortunate incident, Alnefelt has been recuperating, missing HIFK’s last four games. However, optimism surrounds his return, as he is lined up to start in Wednesday’s matchup against Sport.
Having joined HIFK on loan from the Swedish club HV71 last fall, Alnefelt has played a total of 19 games, boasting an impressive save percentage of 88.4. His presence is sure to reinvigorate the team, which has been struggling of late, currently sitting at 11th place in the standings with three losses in their last four outings.
In addition to Alnefelt, the team will also see the return of striker Petrus Palmu, who missed three games due to injury.
The much-anticipated HIFK–Sport match is set to begin at 18:30, and fans will be eager to see if the returning players can help turn the tide for HIFK.
