Young Räikkönen Shines in Karting as Family Backs Future AKK Leader

In the spirited arena of karting, 10-year-old Robin Räikkönen once again demonstrated his talent, securing a commendable second place in the Italian Rotax Micro series race held in the picturesque setting of Jesolo, Italy. In addition to his podium finish, young Räikkönen clocked the fastest lap of the event, highlighting both his skill and potential.

As is tradition, the Räikkönen family was present in the pit, with none other than father Kimi—an iconic figure in Formula 1 and the 2007 world champion—taking on the role of his son’s mechanic. It was a heartwarming scene, representing not only fatherly support but also a glimpse into the family dynamics that thrive within the motorsport community.

During the race, Kimi took to Instagram to engage with his over three million followers, revealing which candidate the family is backing for the upcoming presidency of the Finnish National Association of Motor Sports (AKK). In a video posted to his Story, Kimi can be seen enthusiastically applying a sticker to Robin’s karting car, endorsing Toni Vilander for the organization’s chairmanship. Both father and son capped off the moment with a cheerful thumbs up to the camera.

Vilander, a long-time factory driver for Ferrari and a multiple class winner at Le Mans, is one of three contenders vying for the AKK chair. He faces competition from Pasi Mäenpää and Jukka Westerback, with the election scheduled for the 26th of October—just a week away.

Vilander holds a special place in the Räikkönen family, being a close friend and even the godfather to Kimi’s child. As the family rallies around him, the excitement for Robin’s burgeoning career in karting is palpable, even as they navigate the immense expectations that often accompany a legacy.

In reflecting on Robin’s journey, Kimi shared his primary concern: “If Robin is happy, I’m happy.” The emphasis remains on enjoyment rather than pressure. Vilander, speaking to Iltalehti a year ago, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of patience and joy in pursuing the sport. “It’s a family hobby,” he noted, adding, “Time will tell how it develops. They’re making smart decisions as a family.”

The spotlight may shine brightly on young Robin, but within the warmth of his family, the focus is clear: nurturing passion and enjoyment as they embark on this exciting journey together.
