New Scandic Hotel Opens at Helsinki Railway Station

On October 1st, the eagerly awaited Scandic Helsinki Station will officially welcome guests at one of the city’s most iconic locations, right next to Elielinaukio, often considered the parade ground of Helsinki—and indeed all of Finland. Even before opening its doors, the hotel’s 174 rooms have already sold out for its inaugural day, signaling strong interest.

This new establishment rises from the foundation of a former Holiday Inn that underwent a year-long renovation. The transformation is nothing short of remarkable; not only have all rooms and common areas been completely revamped, but the hotel has also integrated new technology, including solar panels on its roof.

Guests can expect a wide range of amenities, including a lobby bar, a breakfast restaurant, a glazed terrace, and facilities such as a sauna and fitness room. The hotel’s layout features a thoughtful design, with half of the rooms classified as standard and the other half as superior or superior plus, with certain options equipped with bathtubs.

In a nod to flexibility, every room offers the choice between a spacious king bed and a pair of twin beds, catering to the evolving needs of today’s travelers. Recently, there has been a renewed demand for twin rooms, as budget-conscious business travelers increasingly prefer this option to traveling alone.

The hotel has already generated excitement prior to its opening, with hotel manager Fairy tale Aalto expressing her joy during the opening ceremony: “It’s wonderful that this day has come.” The ceremony also marked the hotel’s achievement of the Nordic Swan label, a prestigious environmental certification that underscores its commitment to sustainable practices concerning energy consumption, water usage, waste management, food sourcing, and the cleaning products utilized.

The venue is well-positioned amidst a competitive hospitality landscape near Helsinki’s main railway station. Alongside Scandic Helsinki Station, travelers have high-quality options such as the nearby Grand Central Hotel and the Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna. Last year also saw the debut of the NH Collection Grand Hansa, which, along with its popular Kupoli bar, has quickly become a favored locale for both visitors and locals.

As Scandic Helsinki Station opens at 1 p.m. on the first of October, it finds itself in a prime location that is bound to attract guests who value convenience and quality in the heart of the city.
