A recent blaze has wreaked havoc at FC Haka’s stadium in Valkeakoski, resulting in the complete destruction of a stand at the Tehtaan kenttä—commonly known as the Factory field.

In the wake of the fire, local authorities have launched an investigation, revealing that three minors, all under the age of 15, were present when the flames broke out. According to law enforcement, one of the young suspects has confessed to igniting an object that led to the fire, which ultimately decimated part of the stadium.

Though this incident is being treated as a case of arson, it is unlikely to result in criminal charges due to the age of the suspects—Finnish law does not hold individuals under 15 criminally liable. However, police clarified that this does not exempt them from potential financial responsibility for the damages, as there is no minimum age for liability in Finland.

The fire inflicted considerable destruction, with one stand turned to ash and flames spreading perilously onto the stadium’s artificial turf.

“This incident has sparked intense discussions on social media and stirred strong emotions among residents,” remarked Detective Inspector Maijastiina Tammisto. “We hope the dialogue remains constructive, as inappropriate comments could themselves lead to legal scrutiny.”

As of now, an assessment of the total damage costs has not been finalized, but FC Haka’s chairman, Marko Laaksonen, believes the financial impact will be substantial.

This unfortunate event follows closely on the heels of the club’s recent relegation from Finland’s top-tier football league, the Veikkausliiga, just last month.

“We certainly didn’t need this,” Laaksonen lamented. “We’ve already received tremendous support from our community, and we will undoubtedly rely on that continued strength in the times ahead.”
